Plaid

 Sunglasses: Pared Eyewear
Shirt: Cotton On
Skirt: Romance Was Born
Shoes: Kenzo
Handbag: Zara

I love a little bit of plaid but I find it a bit of a tricky trend. I feel the garment has to be well structured and sophisticated. You have to be extremely careful not to go overboard and look like a construction worker (if that is not the look you are going for).

Sometimes it is fun just to have a hint of a trend in your outfit. My 'Romance Was Born' skirt is the perfect example. The blue plaid pockets and waist band on my metallic skirt are a fun alternative to an entirely plaid skirt. Plus who doesn't love a metallic gold, pleated mini!?

I teamed my skirt with a 'Cotton On' printed, tailored shirt. The colours matched perfectly with my skirt. As there was already a lot going on with several different patterns so my accessories were kept to a minimum. I just added my 'Kenzo' flats for a little bit of sophistication!

Bringing It Back

Sunglasses: Sportsgirl + DIY
Tee: Shakuhachi
Dress: Cotton On
Boots: Shag
Handbag: Nasty Gal

There is a theory behind my hoarding habits (not really, but I just like to think that). Today I dug deep into my closet (really deep) to find this tartan gem of a dress from years ago. At the time I remember thinking "I am over this dress right now but I can see it coming back into fashion in the future" and what do you know, tartan is back baby! You could pretty much call this "Cotton On" dress vintage from their early days!

I just kept it really simple with my splice necked "Shakuhachi" tee and red and blue suede boots. The interesting neckline on the tee added a fresh now look on the plain old white t-shirt and pinafore look which, could have bordered on kiddy.

I love tartan but so far this season I am yet to purchase something better than this "Cotton On" ruffled pinafore. Bring back the olde school!
