Ball Gown!

Miss Selfridge is quickly becoming my new favourite label. Glue's Bondi Junction Flagship store has recently started stocking it and is the first stockist in Australia. At this stage it is exclusive to the one store. I am aware you are able to buy it online (obviously) but I feel special buying an item in person, as they only get one of every size in every style. Therefore, I feel like I will be one of the few people that will own the garment, eliminating the chances of same dress syndrome amongst friends! My latest purchase was a bit of a splurge item. Yes, it was quite exy and a statement dress that cannot be worn everywhere but hey, it was too beautiful to resist! It is a long sleeved, purple lace pencil dress which ends at mid calf. It has a purple sleeveless slip underneath and a split up the back to the knee. On the lace is the most exquisite detailing of hand beaded and sequinned flowers. I cannot express how gorgeous they are and how much time has gone into the detailing of the dress. It is so special that I have had to hang it in its own suit bag in my cupboard so that it will not attach to any other item of clothing because if it pulls it will be ruined. Let's just say it is not your average, raging party dress. No stumbling nights for me in this dress. It is definitely more for a garden party affair!

The other night my bestie DM and I caught up for dinner and drinks at Keystone's newest establishment, "Sweethearts BBQ" rooftop bar at the top of Sugarmill.

It doesn't really matter how much you eat because the amount of flights of stairs you have to take up and down is enough of a work out. Luckily, there are lots of artworks to look at on your way up. As well as quirky paintings, fun scribbles and interesting sculptures each set of stairs has a quote written on them. It felt as if you were on a stairway to heaven! Thank goodness on the last flight there was a cute sign in black permanent marker saying we had made it!

The rooftop is gorgeous. Sydney may be a bit late on the rooftop bar chain but I think we have finally made it this Summer! Communal tables and more intimate seatings fill the space. There are colourful fairly lights strung from wall to wall. You would hope for good weather though as most of it is open air. There is a roof over the open kitchen area and bar which are in an L shape along the side.

House Pinot Noir $9 per glass

When you sit down you are given a menu pad and a jar of pencils. The idea is to tick off your order on the menu. I always love a quirky menu, all the more fun! Once you have filled in your menu you take it to the bar and pay.

The menu is perfect for the Aussie Summer. Lots of meat from the barbie, fresh salads, vegetables and seafood. It is designed to share, luckily DM and I have similar palettes.

We started off with the "Queensland Bug Tails" with mango, peanuts, chilli, coriander and lime. I had been advised that this was their 'go to dish' and it was delicious. We received five juicy bugs topped with delicious mango salsa. They slide right out of their shells. Pity we didn't get six! We were very strategic with our dividing of the fifth one, they were that good!

They offer a large selection of skewers with the option of one free condiment per skewer. We ordered two "marinated vegetable skewers", one "salmon belly skewer" and one "beef tri trip skewer". They all came on separate wooden trays (like my grandmother used to have) on metal skewers with barbecued lemon and a side salad of radish and leaves. I actually asked DM if we could have a sword fight! As they all came on separate trays we quickly ran out of room and had to do a lot of rearranging of the food onto two trays! The salmon belly was pink and flakey and the beef super juicy! The marinated veggies were huge! They consisted of mushrooms, onion, capsicum, fennel and tomato. We definitely over ordered and could have done with one. We didn't really need the side of beans that came afterwards but nevertheless they were delicious and broke up all of the protein. Even though the "house cornetto" or the "smashed berry pav" sounded more than inviting we were in too much of a food coma to even think about dessert!

Qld Bug tails $22
Salmon Belly Skewer $16
Beef Tri Trip Skewer $14
Marinated Vegetable Skewers $12 each

The only criticism we had was that the food came very quickly (hardly a bad thing) and all at once. I'd hardly sipped my "pinot noir" before the food arrived. We were definitely struggling for space on the table when all the food came!

Steamed Green Beans $29

What a gem for a lovely drink in the Sydney Summer breeze. Any place that has a whole section on the menu for salt gets my vote (truffle, five spice, horseradish, chicken, fennel, smoked sea and the list goes on). I can definitely see this being one of my summer hang out spots!
