Jacaranda Trip Hat: Love Couture Top: Country Road Dress: Glassons Bag: Zara Shoes: Betts Necklace: Columbian Markets |
Sometimes you don't need to have fancy things to put together a good outfit. My outfit yesterday was made up of all relatively inexpensive items. My killer straw cap, which I got for a steal, was from a tiny store in Chatswood. I thought it was only fitting to wear my last season's straw flatworm purchase (which, I hardly wore last Summer). My cute little dark and light denim shift was a perfect, playful accompaniment for all the straw. I met up with my friend JJ, who has been travelling the world for the last seven months and he gave me the cutest necklace of little dancing Columbians from Columba. It matched perfectly with my outfit, it was like he just knew! I am totally a kid at heart <3
Well, did KJ and I stumble on a beauty yesterday! Runcible Spoon in Camperdown is definitely my new hang out cafe! It is located in small, narrow Barr Street, just off Parramatta Road. Blink and you would miss the entrance to the cafe as it is tucked away under the old Weston biscuit factory.
It is actually quite a large cafe, not just a coffee shop. With communal seating available inside and about a dozen tables outside on the front deck. It is extremely cute. Little knick-knacks are all around. The shelves are crammed with as many items as possible, jars, tins, cook books, sugar, utensils, anything really! They also have chalk boards in odd places. For example if you care to look up to where the wall meets the ceiling inside there is a black board with recipes written on it such as carrot cake and chocolate parfait. The homely vibe continues if you look on the floor next to the entrance to the kitchen. Sacks, crates and bags full of fresh fruit and vegetables all around! At least you know what you are getting is fresh!
"Runcible Spoon" serves an all day breakfast and lunch. They use a lot of free range and organic produce which is sourced locally. They have some quirky breakfast options including Thai style fried eggs with jasmine rice, tomato, coriander and nam jim and crispy potato roesti with slow roast tomatoes, poached eggs and bacon. For lunch they offer a couple of burger options (not too much bun), fresh sandwiches and salads. There is a menu online however, due to the constant changing of seasonal vegetables new items are just added to the blackboard. In addition to the savoury breakfast and lunch options they have an array of home made sweets, which are literally to die for!
Caramel Meringue Cake $7.5 |
KJ and I only planned on popping in for a coffee but were swayed by the mouth watering dessert cabinet. "Runcible Spoon" uses Golden Cobra Coffee which, I have never had before. They offer regular, large and bowl sized coffees. Yes, the coffee is that good you will want to order a bowl! Rich and creamy with a lovely nutty after taste. We both opted for the three layered caramel meringue cake. Meringue being one of both of our favourite foods it was a no brainer. Now, it literally was a little slice of heaven. We haven't had a dessert like this in as long as we can remember. The meringue was crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. Candied nuts had been sprinkled over the top and caramel drizzled over the top of them. Between the three layers of meringue was coffee cream. So mouth tingling good, it was actually ridiculous! We watched the chef put together what was to be a chocolate mousse meringue cake. We knew that would be devine! I am not going to lie, KJ went back today and bought two pieces for us to have for dessert tonight. Yes, it really was that good!
Large Latte $4 Regular Latte $3.5 |
The service was also excellent. The wait staff were all attentive, chatty, down to earth and extremely friendly. They really looked like they love their jobs! The owner also assured us that they have a meringue cake on offer every day.
Considering KJ has been there twice in two days I am positive that we are going to be locals soon!
