Garden Party

Today I felt like my old faithful navy 'Lee Licks' were in need of a bit of lovin'. I teamed them with a navy aztec print shirt. Navy on navy. Being a self confessed pattern clasher victim I had to add my floral bomber jacket for that little extra something.  However, as it was such a hot day I had to shed the bomber! I really never dress appropriately for the weather!

I finally had the chance to catch up with BL for a quick brunch before we both had to run off to other commitments! We went to 'Twig Cafe' which is located at the back of 'The Garden Store' in Surry Hills.

Large Latte $4

It is a cute little cafe out the back of 'Garden Life' nursery. There is a small dining area inside which is largely taken up by a big communal table filled with magazines and papers. Apart from that there are half a dozen tables outside on the pavement which on a day like today when the sun was blazing was very nice. The tables, chairs and benches were wooden and reminded me of tree trunks which I thought were very appropriate! You are also surrounded by greenery and if you are sitting inside have a view of the garden from a big glass window.

The experience was a bit of a roller coaster. BL and I were off to a good start with a freshly squeezed orange juice and an EBT. They use tea leaves and the tea came with a strainer. Tea leaves are so much nicer than just a bag! They really do make such a difference. However, after our drinks arrived everything went downhill. We only ordered light meals but they took almost half an hour to arrive! BL had the fruit salad with yoghurt which for the price she felt the portion was rather small. The strawberries that came on top of the yoghurt still had their stems on them and she had to pick them off. We thought that was quite lazy. My bowl of sautéed mushrooms were delicious, nice and meaty however the bowl of seasonal greens was very bland and rather tasteless. It was also mainly filled with spinach, which don't get me wrong I love, but with no seasoning they were very bland.

Top: EBT $4.50 and Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice $6
Bottom Left: Seasonal Vegetables $8.5 and Button Mushrooms with Thyme $5
Bottom Right: Fruit Salad with Yoghurt $12.5

We went up to the counter to pay our bill as the waitress' seemed to be M.I.A outside. It then took two of them to process our bill, they had no idea what they were doing!

Enough of the negatives. We did end our meal on a higher note with my take-away coffee. They use 'Single Origin Coffee' beans which you can always count on for a tasty coffee. The single origin that they are currently using is 'Sunticoppa Estate, India'. The coffee was creamy, extra hot and had an underlying caramel flavour.

I would return to 'Twig Cafe' for their coffee, after all they did earn themselves a hat but I would not return for their food or service. A shame really!
